Cloudbusting - 12" Vinyl Picture Disc

Released in 2019 for RSD, this 12" single contains the remastered versions that are also found on The Other Sides collection that had been released the previous year. As for the record, it's nice - really, really nice. My scans, and even online photos, really don't do it any justice, but it probably ties for first place with Lake Tahoe as my favourite picture disc release for RSD.

What I like about this one is the fact that the Orgonon Mix of Cloudbusting was used instead of the album version. It's probably one of my favourite remixes. I'm not generally a fan of remixes as I've mentioned before, but I like the Hounds of Love era ones and the one made for Experiment IV. They aren't your typical remixes and they really stand out as special.

Warm and Soothing is a bit of an odd choice to use on this release, especially next to Rocket Man. I like the song, don't get me wrong, but compared to the other tracks used it definitely feels and sounds a little out of place. I think something else should have been used in its place, just to make it more cohesive sounding with the rest. Brazil would have worked better here.

This is the last truest picture disc to date. I suspect if Kate ever releases anything further in the future via RSD or otherwise, it will be UV printed instead - just like Eat The Music.

There also doesn't appear to be any messages scratched into the run-off vinyl on either side - only matrix/catalogue numbers. As I mentioned in my post for Eat The Music, it seems as though Kate has given up doing this. The last vinyl releases that seem to have received inscriptions are The Red Shoes era ones; including the original album, 12" and 7" singles and the jukebox 7" promos.

This can still easily be found online for a decent price if you want it. Some people are asking the world for it, which is ridiculous, and some are charging large shipping prices. Do some comparative shopping first to get the best deal.

 ---------

Side note: Not a part of RSD, but for anyone who maybe wondering, I chose not to get the 2019 French 12" release of Ne T'Enfuis Pas for various reasons. 1. I already have the songs a gazillion times over now. 2. I didn't think too much of the packaging on this one, especially the design layout for the jacket. It reeks of an early '80s bootleg, so I passed on it. Even I have my limits.

Eat The Music - 10" Vinyl Picture Disc

Just a couple of quick notes here. This is not my best cut and paste job, but whatever! Also, my scanner has currently gone full evil on me and refuses to behave. For some reason it wouldn't pick up and register side 2 fully. Maybe this is due to the fact that it's all white vinyl. Either way it's annoying. I did manage to get the label scanned, so this will have to do for now. I may try scanning all of this in again in the future, but for now it's good enough. Yes, my standards have slipped ;)

I must say it was a very nice surprise when Eat The Music was first announced to be getting a vinyl release for this year's RSD in April, especially as this was originally intended to be the first single released from the Red Shoes back in the day.

I'm not so sure if this can really be called a Picture Disc in the truest sense, considering the picture is UV printed as opposed to a real picture being used. The UV printing has a very flat matte finish to it - but it's still very nice though, and I probably like it more than I should. It probably stems from the regret that I still have from letting the scrapped 7" single slip through my fingers years ago. It's just a shame the flipside was left white as it looks a bit unfinished. Still, it could have been worse with a giant Fish People logo... just saying!

There also doesn't appear to be any messages scratched into the run-off vinyl on either side - only matrix/catalogue numbers on side two. Kate appears to have scrapped doing this. Prove me wrong Kate... prove me wrong ;)

Admittedly, I haven't played this single and have no plans to, so I really have no clue which version of Lily is used or if Big Stripey Lie is the original version or the newly edited version. I'm assuming they are the original '93 versions. The last thing I will mention is the sleeve. It comes in a soft plastic sleeve that splits at the seams very easily, so be careful with it.

The single appears to have found its way onto auction sites, which is not surprising, but the money those people are asking for it is totally ridiculous. Some, but not many, are selling it for a decent price though. You'd probably have to dig deep to find it at a reasonable price if you really want this one.

RUNNING UP THAT HILL 2012 Remix – Limited Edition 10” Vinyl Picture Disc

This special limited edition 10" picture disc release of Kate's 2012 remix of Running Up That Hill was limited to 4,000 pressed copies only, and was a special release for Record Store Day April 20, 2013.

Initially I wasn't going to bother looking for this one, or even have anyone else look for me. I thought it would just be a repeat of RSD 2012. But someone in “the group” wasn’t having it. One person was determined to get it for me, even if she had to mace people in the face with hairspray and pry it from their hands while they were distracted. Her determination paid off and she successfully found it. A very huge Thank You to Kimberley P. You did awesome.

According to Kate’s website at the time, 2,500 copies were allocated for the UK and the remainder were distributed to the rest of the world… and we all know where a lot of these immediately ended up the moment they were bought. I stopped counting after 84 copies on the first day. I think it’s sad it had to happen again, but it's also no big surprise.

I do know that Kate's website shop eventually had extra copies for sale, but I don't know how that went as I didn't need one.

Lake Tahoe - 10" Vinyl Picture Disc

This special limited edition 10" picture disc release of Lake Tahoe was limited to 2,000 pressed copies only, and was a special release for Record Store Day April 21, 2012. Despite the fact that I had several people attempting to find this one for me, luck wasn't on our side that day.

The good news was that Kate's website announced they had 200 copies available on their site to buy at the regular sales price on May 9th. Anyone that tried to get one that day knows what a fun day it was trying to order from the site. The web traffic was so high that everyone's computer kept crashing, including mine.

Despite the crashing, the 200 copies sold out in about an hour. A lot of people never got one that day either. Everyone tried really hard, but it was a mad rush to the finish line. I know how difficult it was, so I really do empathize with anyone that tried and couldn't get through. It was not an easy task.

Personally, I do think it was much nicer getting it from Kate's shop, even with all the difficulty that day. Let's face it - Record Store Day was a complete disaster. We all know where a lot of these ended up, and even though I've been a hardcore fan for a lot of years, I had absolutely no intentions of paying the kind of money people were wanting from a certain online site. The whole thing made me sick.

I just want to give a shout out to Kelly R. and Kimberley P. who tried very hard for me on RSD to get one of these things. Special mention also goes to Mark M. who had his people looking for me as well. Thanks guys. I know RSD was a complete disaster and it's greatly appreciated that you all tried. Thank you!

I know Kate will never see this, but I'd like to thank her and her shop for putting some of these out so that REAL FANS had an opportunity to finally get one. Thank you!
