Badges

All badges found on this blog page are original vintage ones that I've collected over the last 30+ years. This includes officially produced badges and mass market produced badges. I don't collect cheap modern day knock off badges you see being sold on certain sites.

To make things easier and more organized, I've grouped badges by album era. Any random badges that don't specifically fit into an album section are loosely slotted in afterward by decade. Club, Convention and tour badges all have their own sections.

I've also made up titles for the more miscellaneous badges just to identify them a little better, instead of repeating "vintage, vintage, vintage" for each one. Information on all badges will be kept minimal and to the point just to keep the page more flowing.

This is by no means a complete listing of all vintage badges ever produced, and it's also pretty doubtful that anyone has every single one. Not only were badges produced in different countries like the UK, USA and Canada, just to name a few, but some badges have literally vanished out of existence and just don't turn up anymore.

I do add more badges to this page from time to time when I unearth them again from my collection.

OFFICIAL KBC BADGES:

Lionheart Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

2¼" round 'Lionheart' badge featuring the club's original address. This badge was only available through the club or during the tour.

Multi-Image Badge Set (Circa 1980) UK

This six badge set was only available directly through the club. Each badge measures 2¼" round in diameter and features the KT logo in the centre of each. Tracking down a complete set these days can be difficult and costly.

Breathing Badge Set (Circa 1980) UK

This three badge set was only available directly through the club. Each badge measures 1" round in diameter. Difficult finding a complete set today.

KT Logo Badges (Circa 1980s) UK

The two versions of the "KT" badge that you could only get through the Kate Bush Club back in the '80s. The smaller one was given as part of the membership package, but both were also available for purchase through the club. The smaller one is 1” round in diameter and the larger is 1½” round in diameter.

OFFICIAL TOUR BADGES - TOUR OF LIFE:

Lionheart Tour Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

Variant version of the original club badge and measuring 2" round in diameter. This one was also sold via the club.

Lionheart Resin Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

Heart shaped resin badge that roughly measures 1¾” from the top curve to the bottom point. At its widest point it measures 1¾” across and it's also about ¼” thick. This was also sold via the club. Easily the rarest and most sought after badge of all.

Lionheart Resin Badge - Alternate Hand-Painted Version (Circa late '70s) UK

Heart shaped resin badge that roughly measures 1¾” from the top curve to the bottom point. At its widest point it measures 1¾” across and it's also about ¼” thick. This was also sold via the club.

This one is exactly the same as the two-tone gold and red one, but you would never know it because a lot of the finer detail is lost on this hand-painted version. I got this years ago simply because it's the only official badge that I can think of that's been hand-painted like this, but I'm not exactly a fan of this particular one. The colours are garish, almost sickly looking. Its overall appearance reminds me of those vintage carnival masks of creepy animal faces.

Since a limited number of these were hand-painted, it also means that each one does vary slightly in the way the painted details look. No one seems to know why this was done or how many were hand-painted, but it's definitely official. So if anyone has been wondering if it's some kind of unofficial copy or reproduction - it isn't... but it's still ugly. This one turns up less often than the two-tone gold and red one.

OFFICIAL CONVENTION BADGES:

1980 Convention Badge (Circa 1980) UK

1" round badge from the very first KBC convention on May 10, 1980.

1990 Convention Badge (Circa 1990) UK

1" round badge from the 1990 convention featuring the modified female gender logo with the KT symbol.

THE KICK INSIDE ERA BADGES:

Kite Badge (Circa 1978) UK

Highly detailed badge with a height of 1¼“ and the width measuring 1⅛”.

Commonly mistaken as a enamel badge, this is actually two separate component parts: a metal backing with a veneer layer bonded to it. Enamel materials are fused directly onto other materials like metal, glass or ceramics - not glued on.

Kick Inside Badge (Circa late '70s) Canada

Canadian produced circular badge featuring a cropped version of the album artwork and measuring 2¼" round in diameter.

Kick Inside Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

Square metal and veneer badge featuring a cropped version of the Canadian album artwork and measuring just under 1" by slightly over ¾”.

Album Artwork Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

UK produced badge featuring a cropped version of the UK album artwork and measuring just shy of 2¼” round in diameter.

Blue Leotard Badge (Circa Late '70s) UK

UK produced badge featuring a metal backing and measuring slightly under 1" x 1⅛"

LIONHEART ERA BADGES:

Lionheart Letterhead Promo Badge (Circa 1978) Canada

Official promotional badge produced in Canada in 1978 as part of their promoting package for Lionheart. It measures almost 1¾” round in diameter and tends to be one of the rarer ones these days.

Kate Bush (Circa late '70s) UK

UK produced badge featuring Lionheart era photography by Gered Mankowitz and measuring 1" round in diameter.

Prismatic Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

UK produced badge featuring a prismatic design and Lionheart artwork. It measures 2" round in diameter and tends to scratch up very easily due to the cheap paint coating on the surface.

Prismatic Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

UK produced badge featuring a prismatic design and featuring artwork from Lionheart, which is similar to the badge above. Unfortunately, this one doesn't scan very well and photos are worse, so this scan will have to do. It measures 1½" squared and the frame/backing is a lightweight plastic.

Lionheart Artwork Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

UK produced square badge featuring the album artwork for Lionheart. It measures 2" square in diameter with a paper laminated face wrapped around a metal frame. Incidentally, there's also a Canadian produced one from the mid '80s that measures 1½" x 1½" square. Don't confuse the two.

NEVER FOREVER ERA BADGES:

Army Dreamers Artwork Badge (Circa early to mid '80s) Canada

Measuring 1½" x 1½" square and featuring the UK artwork for the single. This one is rarely ever seen these days.

There is one discernable difference between square badges made in the U.S. and Canada. Canadian ones will have CANADA or MADE IN CANADA printed somewhere on one of the back flaps, whereas the U.S. ones are typically blank.

OTHER '70s ERA BADGES:

Letterhead Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

Kate Bush letterhead designed badge, which rarely ever turns up these days. It measures 1¾” long by nearly ¼” wide with rounded edges.

"Cartoon" Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

Late '70s to very early '80s produced badge with cartoon design. This measures 1" round in diameter and is probably the easiest badge to find even now.

"Kate" Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

Two variants of the same badge measuring 1" round in diameter. I've heard there's a third variant but I personally haven't seen one.

"Bad Hair Day" Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

Measuring 1" round in diameter.

"Rainbow" Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

Measuring 1" round in diameter and featuring rainbow lettering.

"Face" Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

Measuring 1" round in diameter.

"Pose" Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

Measuring 1¼” round in diameter and featuring a posed shot of Kate taken from the Hammersmith video artwork. The second badge is exactly the same as the first. The only difference between the two is that the lion design hasn't faded on it. Since the lion design is a different colour, and much lighter, it has a habit of fading over time on many of these.

Kate Bush "Blue" Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

This one measures 1½” round in diameter. There's also a variant of this badge which is exactly the same, just much larger.

"Live" Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

This one measures slightly under 1¼” round in diameter and features a live shot of Kate in concert.

Prismatic Logo Badge (Circa late '70s/early '80s) UK

This one measures 1½” round in diameter and features a prismatic design. There are also two variants of this badge.

Face Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

This one measures 2½" round in diameter and doesn't turn up often anymore.

Face Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

Nice one of Kate measuring 2" round in diameter.

"Lips-Stick" Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

Measuring close to 2¼" round in diameter, this is another one that doesn't show up too often.

"Lips-Stick" Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

Smaller version of the larger badge measuring 1½" round in diameter.

"Lace" Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

Measuring slightly over 2" round in diameter, there's also a much smaller version of this badge.

"Head and Shoulders" Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

This one measures nearly 2½" round in diameter and is another difficult one to come by these days.

"Head and Shoulders" Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

This is the much smaller version of the one above, measuring 1" round in diameter. Like the larger version, this one also doesn't turn up very often.

Letterhead Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

Resin badge measuring nearly 2.5" length x just over 1" height and a ¼” depth.

Probably one of the rarer badges to come by as it hardly ever turns up. It has an interesting combination cut-out effect and bubble style lettering, which is clearly hand done and also varies from badge to badge. From the few other examples I've seen, there are some very specific variations with each badge and how the letters are marked out. For example, between the letters K and A on my badge, there's a very obvious looking space/gap painted between the two letters. On other versions of the badge the letter K is marked out, but there's no gap painted between it and the letter A, so the letter A continues to run into the letter K. Another example is the letter S. On some versions of the badge the bottom tail of the S swoops up and curves into the black gap area, whereas on my badge it looks chopped off because the entire space is painted black instead. I could go on and on about these variations, but I think you get the idea.

"Fingers" Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

Measuring 1½" round in diameter, there's also a much larger version of this badge.

Prismatic Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

UK produced badge featuring a prismatic design and measuring 1" round in diameter. There's also a much larger version of this badge.

Kate Bush Badge (Circa late '70s) UK

UK produced badge measuring 1" round in diameter. Similar in design to the prismatic badge above, this one features solid colours. Incidentally, there's a further badge that's also similar in design and size, but that one has different colours which are predominately orange and red.

HOUNDS OF LOVE ERA BADGES:

Running Up That Hill (Circa 1985) Canada

Measuring 1½" x 1½" and featuring the single's artwork.

Hounds of Love (Circa 1985/86) UK

Curved edge square badge featuring a cropped version of the album's artwork and measuring nearly 1¼”.

Running Up That Hill (Circa 1985/86) UK

Measuring 1" round in diameter and featuring a cropped version of the single's artwork. There's also a variant of this badge, which is a larger square shape with curved edges.

Hounds of Love (Circa 1985/86) UK

1" round badge featuring a very cropped version of the album artwork.

Running Up That Hill (Circa 1985/86) UK

Featuring a cropped version of the single's artwork, this curved edged square badge roughly measures  1¼”. There's also a smaller version of this badge measuring 1" round in diameter.

Hounds of Love (Circa 1985/86) UK

Measuring 2¼" round in diameter, this badge features a cropped version of the album artwork

THE SENSUAL WORLD ERA BADGES:

The Sensual World (Circa 1989/90) UK

Measuring 1¼” round in diameter and featuring a very cropped version of the album's artwork.

Face Badge Large(Circa 1989/90) UK

Measuring nearly 2¼" round in diameter.

Face Badge Small (Circa 1989/90) UK

Measures 1" round in diameter.

OTHER '80s ERA BADGES:

Cartoon Badge (Circa mid '80s) UK

A series of cartoon designed badges from around the mid '80s measuring 1" round in diameter. It's unclear exactly how many variants are out there. All badges carry the same cartoonish drawing of Kate. The six most common ones are: Black/White, Black/Green, Black/Orange, Black/Red, Black/Blue and Black/Yellow. There's also a Black/Red version with a white face, as well as a Black/Blue version with a white face. Less common, and actually more difficult to find are: Blue/Yellow, Pink/Yellow and Green/Yellow. Most likely there are more variants out there.

"Face" Badge (Mid '80s) Canada

Measuring 1½" x 1½" and featuring an early '80s photo of Kate. These square shaped badges were pretty typical in the mid '80s in Canada and the U.S.

"Creepy Face" Badge (Circa early '80s) UK

Measuring 1" round in diameter, there are also two additional variants of this badge that I'm aware of. A black/white version and a black/orange version.

Black/White Badge (Circa early '80s) USA

Measuring 1¼” round in diameter, this was a promotional badge by EMI America. This is a pretty rare one to come across these days.

"Cartoon" Badge (Circa early '80s/late '70s) UK

Measuring 1" round in diameter, this is not one of the better ones out there.

"Dress" Badge (Circa mid '80s) UK

This one measures 1" round in diameter. Although this badge features a photo taken during the late '70s, it was actually manufactured around 1985/86.

"Face" Badge (Circa mid '80s) UK

Measures 1" round in diameter.

"Face" Badge (Circa mid '80s) UK

Measures 1" round in diameter.

"Face" Badge (Circa early '80s) UK

Measures 1" round in diameter.

"Hair" Badge (Circa mid '80s) UK

Measures 1" round in diameter.

"Hat" Badge (Circa mid '80s) UK

Measuring almost 1¼” round in diameter.

I would also suggest watching it with this one. There seems to be a modern day fake version of this one, which can sometimes be found in some of the modern made badge sets you see for sale online. All I can suggest with this one is checking the back of the badge if there's no visible wear and tear on the front.

"Face" Badge (Circa mid '80s) UK

Measuring just over 1" round in diameter.

Again, this is one to check as there are modern day fakes out there.

Blue Shirt badge (Circa mid '80s) UK

Measures 1" round in diameter.

Mini LP "Babooshka" Badge (Circa early '80s) UK/US manufacture is unknown.

Measures 1" round in diameter.

Be careful about this one. There is a modern day fake version of this particular badge floating around. The modern day fake version has a smaller photo of Kate, thereby showing more of her Babooshka pose. The colours are sharper and brighter and the lettering is completely visible, and not 95% cut off like you see in this one.

BushCon '84 (Circa 1984) Canada

Measuring 2¼" round in diameter, this badge is from the first and only BushCon convention that took place in Canada back in 1984.

THE RED SHOES ERA BADGES:

Album Artwork Badge (Circa 1993) USA

Promo badge measuring 1¼” round in diameter.

Album Artwork Badge (Circa 1993) USA

Official promotional badge issued in the USA in 1993 and measuring 1¼” round in diameter. There's a stamp mark on the back of the badge that says "Union Made USA".

The Red Shoes - Official Convention Badge (Circa 1994) UK

Official convention badge from the 1994 convention which was organized by the KBC/Homeground. The badge measures 1½" round in diameter.

*Be a little careful with this one. There are facsimile versions of this particular one floating around that are selling in some modern day badge sets.

OFFICIAL TOUR BADGES - BEFORE THE DAWN:

Rescue Kit Badges (Circa 2014) UK

A set of 4 badges measuring a fraction shy of 1" round, which were only available as part of the Rescue Kit set. The badges were later sold via Kate's official website, both in the Rescue Kit and separately, until supplies were exhausted.

Feather Lapel Badge (Circa 2014) UK

Highly detailed, with the KT logo engraved near the tip and measuring 1" in length. It also measures about a ¼" at its widest point. This was later sold via Kate's official website until supplies were exhausted.
