Breathing - UK 7" Single: Reissue

The reissue sleeve is paper, and that's about the only difference between it and the first issue sleeve.

The reissue record has only one of the two inscriptions that are etched into the first issue vinyl, and in some cases not even that.

The reissue is also found in the Single File box set.

Breathing - UK 7" Single: First Issue

There's only one difference between the first issue and reissue sleeves. The first issue sleeve is a thick card sleeve, the reissue is not. Everything else is pretty much the same, including the sleeve's opening on the back and the rounded edges on the folds.

The other major difference is on the records. The first issue vinyl has two inscriptions on it - one for each side. The A Side reads "We All Share The Same Air", and the B Side reads "Happy Anniversary To The P's". The reissue only has the Side A inscription on it, and in some cases not even that.

Breathing - German 7" Single

This is the German 7" single for Breathing. The artwork on the sleeve is exactly the same as the UK release, but with one huge difference - This one has a reversed black and white effect to the UK sleeve. Personally, I think this sleeve is a little more interesting to look at just for that reason alone.

The back of the sleeve is also identical to the UK release but carries the same opposite effect. Apart from this, the only other thing that differs on the back is the distribution information.

The record also has the same labels as the UK release on both sides, except on the German release they're slightly cropped due to the fact that it has a large centre hole.

Breathing - Japanese 7" Single

This release still uses the picture insert and company sleeve format, unlike some of the later releases that adopted the full picture sleeve release. I'll be the first to admit that I don't know a lot about the history of Japanese vinyl releases, but it would be interesting to find out why they went from picture inserts to full picture sleeves, and when this transition happened. The Japanese did this with a lot of different artists, and the artwork on their early ones always differed completely from the UK or American counterparts, then later transitioned into full picture sleeves using the same artwork at some point. I find the whole thing interesting.

This release uses the same artwork that's featured on the front of the original UK release, with the addition of Japanese text. Picture inserts are always double-sided, and the lyrics for the songs can be found on the reverse side in Japanese and English text. I like the little silhouette pics of Kate in the upper right-hand corner, as well as the spelling errors. Spelling errors can usually be found here and there on these.

The vinyl picture labels are exactly the same to the UK release, with the addition of some Japanese text and distribution information.

Breathing - France 7" Single (Bat Sleeve)

The France 'Bat Sleeve' of Breathing is fairly rare and difficult to come by these days. This one does tend to be somewhat expensive when it does turn up.

The record labels are silver injected moulded ones, and one of the downsides to the silver paint is that it can wear off over time - either through natural wear, using different types of cleaning products (which you should never use anyway), or from the natural oils in your fingers if you stupidly touch the labels to begin with.

The labels on my copy have had worn areas on them for years, and since this is the first time I'm actually including the labels on here for this record, I tried to fix them up a bit before putting them on. I'm not sure how well I did, but I did try.
