Postcards

Here you will find what's left of my postcard collection. I gave many away over the years, so I don't even remember most of the ones I used to own.

To make things easier, I've categorized postcards by album release. Each album section will list and show (front and back) the ones I still have. Any "random" postcards I still have that can't be fitted into an album category will be listed after all the album and tour sections sections at the bottom.

All postcards shown here are original and vintage produced postcards. Some are promotional releases, but many are mass market produced. A few of these are very difficult to come by these days, some impossible, but quite a few of these you should still be able to find without much problem.

This is by no means a full or complete list of postcards - just ones I still have. There are (and were) a lot more out there than some of you realize. I'm still coming across random postcards here and there, so I will continue to post them here until I don't have any left to find.

Note: Most vintage mass market produced postcards are worth nothing - even now. So if you decide to collect postcards, you should only really be paying double the amount of their original value... so basically nothing.

1. Title: Babooshka
    Photo: Video Shot (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: PC48
    Manufactured by: Cult Images
    Made in England
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"
Notes: Although this photo is from the Never For Ever era, the postcard was manufactured in the late '80s,

2. Title: Kate Bush
Photo: Babooshka - Schizoid performance still from Dr. Hook (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: X148 Kate Bush
    Manufactured by: Splash Ltd.
    Made in England
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"
Notes: Although this photo is from the Never For Ever era, the postcard was manufactured in the early '90s. A poster of this still with the same border was also produced in the early '90s.

3. Title: The Lionheart Tour
    Photo: Babooshka still (Black/White)
    Catalogue #: 002
    Manufactured by: Bump Series
    Made in England
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"
Notes: Although this photo is from the Never For Ever era, the postcard was manufactured in the early '90s. Interestingly enough, there was also a standard sized wall poster that featured the exact same artwork as the front of this postcard - also produced in the early '90s. There are some con artists out there who try and pass it off as an original tour poster from Kate's '79 tour - it's not. It's a '90s poster.

1. Title: The Dreaming
    Photo: Album Cover (B/W)
    Catalogue #: None
    Manufactured by: Unknown
    Made in: Unknown
    Type: Possible Bootleg
    Size: 4" x 6"
Notes: While there have been several different postcards for The Dreaming that feature a cheaply looking xeroxed photo of the album cover, this one has always intrigued me the most. The fact that the front has a slightly blurred look to it, which actually shows up better when scanned, and adding to the fact that there's no discernible information on the back, strongly suggests this postcard is a bootleg. Bootleg postcards are not as uncommon as people may think. The only thing I can tell you for sure is that I've had this postcard since 1986, so it does date back to the '80s.

1. Title: Kate Bush
Photo: Cropped version of the Mini LP cover (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: TCS 810
    Manufactured by: Trend Carte Souvenirs
    Made in E.E.C.
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"
Notes: Although this postcard features the artwork from the Mini LP, it wasn't actually produced until the late '80s.

2. Title: Hounds of Love
    Photo: Album Cover (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: Limited Edition
    Made in England
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"
Notes: UK Reprint. Photo is a considerably lighter colour. No catalogue number on the back and the printing is considerably lighter. No copyrigh logo next to the manufacturer's name on this reprint.

3. Title: Hounds of Love
    Photo: Single Cover (Black/White)
    Catalogue #: 112 KATE BUSH
    Manufactured by: Le Terme
    Made in France
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: just over 4" x 6"
Notes: 1st France issue of this postcard. The second and third issue of this postcard differs... specifically with size and finish. Although it doesn't show well here at all, this one has a plastic laminated film on the surface, which also tends to get tiny air bubbles in it. Second and the third issue postcards just have a standard semi-gloss type finish to them. Also, this postcard is a quarter of an inch longer. If you look at the second and third issue postcards below this one, you'll notice that they've literally been cropped right at the "H" in Bush and at the "E" in love - but on this one there is a noticeable gap between the letters and the edge itself. The back of the postcard is virtually the same as the other ones.

4. Title: Hounds of Love
    Photo: Single Cover (Black/White)

    Made in USA.
    Type: Promotional release
    Size: 3.5" x 5.5"
Notes: This was a strictly promo only release and not commercially available.

4. Title: The Sensual World
    Photo: Standard (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: X189
    Manufactured by: Splash Ltd.
    Made in England
    Type: Mass Media
    Size: 4" x 6"
Notes: Although this postcard came out around '89/'90, this wasn't a Sensual World era photo.

5. Title: The Sensual World
    Photo: Album Cover (Brown tones)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: ??
    Made: ??
    Type: Promotional
    Size: 4" x 6"
    * I really can't remember where this one came from. It is a promo... I remember that much. It has release dates on the back for the album and the single. Although my scan doesn't show it very well, the picture is done in brownish tones.

6. Title: The Sensual World
    Photo: Single Cover (Black/White)
    Catalogue #: U718
    Manufactured by: Underground
    Made in England
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"

    Made in England

Notes: This promotional postcard was only available in some versions of the UK press kit for The Sensual World.

8. Title: And the down of a peach says mmh, yes...
    Photo: Lyric Image
    Catalogue #: Nil
Manufactured by: EMI/Capitol Records Canada 1989
    Made in Canada
    Type: Promotional Only Release
    Size: 4" x 6"
Notes: Looking more like some sort of teaser card, this Canadian promotional postcard for the Sensual World is pretty rare, and judging by the fact this doesn't appear to turn up anywhere these days, it's pretty safe to assume not many were printed up to begin with. A very small number of these were randomly inserted into some of the Canadian press kits, but not many - so not all press kits have one. The postcard is made of a thinner card stock material, and the front has a slight sheen to its surface. The lyric sample on the front is the same one that appears on the back sleeve of the Canadian video-style promo box set.

1. Title: The Red Shoes
    Photo: Album Artwork (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: EMI Canada
    Made in Canada.
    Type: Promotional release
Size: Just over 3.5" x just over 5.5"
Notes: This was a strictly promo only release and not commercially available. To my knowledge, there was also a secondary one that was very similar to this one. The front was exactly the same and the back was very similar, but with black lettering instead - it also had a bit more additional information. The second postcard was a promo mail-out that was sent to people who were subscribers of various music magazines (can't remember which ones). The front of the postcard has a glossy/shiny look to it - almost like a laminate finish.

2. Title: Rubberband Girl
    Photo: Single Artwork (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: 1222 - KATE BUSH
    Manufactured by: ?
    Made in England
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4¼" x 6"

Notes: There was also a giant fly poster of this produced in the '90s that measured 40" x 60".

3. Title: The Red Shoes
    Photo: Album Artwork (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: EMI Holland
    Made in Holland.
    Type: Promotional release
    Size: Just under 4" x 6"
Notes: This was a strictly promo only release and not commercially available. It's also a pretty rare one to come by these days. The front has the album artwork, similar to the Canadian promo, but minus the text.  The back has a release date and a bit of info, which I unfortunately cannot translate. The front of the card has a shiny look to it, similar to a laminate finish.

1. Title: King of the Mountain
    Photo: Single Cover (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: EMI
    Made in England.
    Type: Promotional release
    Size: 4" x 6"
    * I got this one via a friend. It has the Aerial cover art on the back, but it's impossible to see. Very light.

2. Title: Aerial (4 postcard set)
Photo: Album cover + others (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: Columbia Records
    Made in USA.
    Type: Promotional release
    Size: 4" x 6"
*I scanned the back of one postcard only since the info is identical on all of them.

1. Title: Kate Bush
Photo: Live shot of Kate on tour by photographer Pete Still (Full Colour)

    Manufactured by: Photogeny
    Made in England
Type: Official Kate Bush Club postcard (available through the club only)
    Size: 4½” x 6¾"
Notes: This postcard was only available through the KBC back in the late ‘70s. Early club items such as postcards, and even photos, are becoming increasingly rarer these days.

1. Title: A Lioness At Heart
    Photo: Gered Mankowitz (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: UFO Books
    Made in England
    Type: Limited to 1,500 made
    Size: 4" x 6"
*This particular postcard was only ever available through this box set.

2. Title: Never For Ever
    Photo: L.F.I. (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: UFO Books
    Made in England
    Type: Limited to 1,500 made
    Size: 4" x 6"
*This particular postcard was only ever available through this box set.

Even though I already have these listed in another blog page with the tour programme, I thought I'd just add them here again. The tour programme came with three postcards and I only scanned in the back of one as they're exactly identical on each one. Each postcard measures 3¾” x 6"

Even though I took a quick photo of these for the tour merchandise blog page that I'm currently working on for BTD, I just thought I'd post these here as well, but in better detail. These were the only official postcards for Before The Dawn, and they were only available in the Rescue Kit tin box.

1. Title: The Secret History of Kate Bush
Photo: Same as book cover (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: Omnibus Press
    Made in England
    Type: Mass Market

*I got this at the same time as I… ummm… bought the book. I'm very surprised I hung onto this one.

2. Title: Kate Bush
    Photo: Random face shot (Black/White)
    Catalogue #: Kate Bush-ISC1073
    Manufactured by: Immagginazione Stellare
    Made in Italy
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"

3. Title: Kate Bush
    Photo: Claude Vanheye (Black/White)
    Catalogue #: X255
    Manufactured by: Splash Ltd.
    Made in England
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"
Notes: Although this uses a photo from the late '70s, the postcard was actually manufactured in 1994.

Title: The Kate Inside
Photo: Guido Harari
Catalogue #: None
Manufactured by: Wall of Sound Gallery
Made in Italy
Type: Promotional
Year: 2013/2014
Size: 21cm X 14.8cm (8.26" x 5.82")

NOTES: Not a postcard in the traditional sense... more of an info card, but I thought it made the most sense to place it here. Printed around 2013/2014, it was put out by the Wall of Sound Gallery to coincide with Kate's tour/residency and to garner interest for a crowdfunding campaign for their forthcoming book The Kate Inside. Printed on sturdy card stock with a matte finish, there's a full colour close up face shot of Kate on the front and a full info blurb on the back. This one has become increasingly difficult to come across over the last few years or so.
