This is a very rare promotional interview cassette that was made
specifically for the Canadian radio market in advance of the album's release.
For anyone that's wondering, the source of this interview is the Radio One
interview that Roger Scott had with Kate on October 14, 1989 in the UK. This is
also an official promo release, in case there were any doubts about that.
The interview is a long one, but it's worth a listen if you’ve
never heard it before. Chances are quite a few of you haven't as I don’t recall
any of this material ending up on any interview picture discs. It also features
a few tracks from the album. Unfortunately, I have no way of telling you how
long this interview is, unless I timed it with a stopwatch - and that's not happening. The inside of the
cassette insert is blank, which means no running time is listed. There's also
no cue marks or tracklisting of any kind.
As for the interview itself, it's a nice one. This is
probably one of Kate's most open and relaxed interviews ever. She talks about the album in greater detail here than in any other interview that she's probably ever given for this album. She also makes a few separate mentions how she was denied permission to the original passage in Ulysses through the Joyce estate, so you particularly get a real sense of her disappointment about that. There's also a lot of laughter from Kate, and she really seems to open up in a way that you don't get with a lot of her interviews.
It's definitely worth a listen if you can find this cassette for a reasonable price.
