RUNNING UP THAT HILL 2012 Remix – Limited Edition 10” Vinyl Picture Disc

This special limited edition 10" picture disc release of Kate's 2012 remix of Running Up That Hill was limited to 4,000 pressed copies only, and was a special release for Record Store Day April 20, 2013.

Initially I wasn't going to bother looking for this one, or even have anyone else look for me. I thought it would just be a repeat of RSD 2012. But someone in “the group” wasn’t having it. One person was determined to get it for me, even if she had to mace people in the face with hairspray and pry it from their hands while they were distracted. Her determination paid off and she successfully found it. A very huge Thank You to Kimberley P. You did awesome.

According to Kate’s website at the time, 2,500 copies were allocated for the UK and the remainder were distributed to the rest of the world… and we all know where a lot of these immediately ended up the moment they were bought. I stopped counting after 84 copies on the first day. I think it’s sad it had to happen again, but it's also no big surprise.

I do know that Kate's website shop eventually had extra copies for sale, but I don't know how that went as I didn't need one.

Love and Anger - UK 7" Single: Single Sleeve Release

This is the standard single sleeve release of Love and Anger. There are some huge differences between this one and the gatefold version, which you can check out right here.

The picture sleeve is a standard one, which means no gatefold or booklet is included here. The front photo on this one is a closer cropped shot of Kate compared to the one on the gatefold. The back of the sleeve is identical to the gatefold release, except for the catalogue number which differs slightly.

The record labels are also different on this release. They're silver injected moulded ones, whereas on the gatefold release it has proper paper labels.

The standard release and the gatefold were both released at the same time. I find it interesting how the gatefold is classed as a limited edition release, especially as that one seems to turn up more often than the single sleeve release.

Moments of Pleasure - UK Promo Flat

Original UK one-sided promo flat for Moments of Pleasure, which measures 12" x 12". Although this one doesn't feature any artwork, there were other ones made at the time that did - those particular ones feature the same photo that's found on the Moments of Pleasure 12" single, with the same information printed along the bottom as this one.

The Red Shoes - UK Promo Flat

Original UK one-sided promo flat for The Red Shoes single, which measures 12" x 12". Even though this promo flat doesn't feature any artwork, there were some made at the time that did. Those particular ones feature the same photo that's found on the front of the 7" single, with pretty much the same information listed along the bottom for the different formats of the single. I can't remember if that one makes mention of the film or not.

The Kick Inside - USA Promotional Press Kit

Original USA Promotional Press Kit for The Kick Inside from 1978. It's very scarce these days.

It's issued with an original 1978 USA LP, but with “NOT FOR SALE” imprinted in the top right corner on the front. It’s a little difficult to see because it’s plain imprinting without any colour or faux foil added to the stamp. I've added a cropped scan to show this better.

The distribution information at the bottom of the back sleeve is extra tiny making it nearly impossible to see, so here's a very cropped version.

The record labels have the same Harvest logo as the Canadian release. It also shares the same catalogue number.

Also included in this press kit is a two page (four sided) bio on Kate. The letterhead at the top of the first page is exactly the same as the typeset used on the front of the album sleeve.

Two black and white 8 x 10 promotional press photos were also included.

And So Is Love - UK Promo Flat

Original UK one-sided promo flat for the single And So Is Love. Measuring 12" x 12" it features the artwork for the single, plus all the release info.

*Since this is the first promo flat I've scanned, I apologize if it looks at all wonky. It's very tricky scanning this in sections, then piecing it back together.

Mini LP - First Issue Canada Cassette

The first issue Canadian cassette release for the Mini LP differs in some specific ways to the second issue release, especially with the insert. You can check the more obvious differences out by clicking right HERE.

The first issue insert is double-sided, whereas the second issue insert is one-sided only. The reversed side is nothing to get excited about as it's just a rant about cassettes and cassette care stuff,

The first and second issue cassettes both have the same catalogue number, and the cassette shells are fairly identical, except for one little difference. The second issue cassette has "Made in Canada" stamped into the edge of the cassette on the A Side, but the first issue cassette doesn't have this at all.

The Man I Love - UK Promo Flat

Original UK one-sided promo flat for the single, The Man I Love. Measuring 12" x 12" it features the artwork for the single. The reversed side is just plain cardboard.

Promo flats that advertised single releases tended to be more one-sided because, if you had a special display stand in your shop, which the promo flats slotted into, you could use the other side to promote another artist's single without obscuring any important advertising info.

The Red Shoes – USA Promotional Handbill

This is a promotional handbill that was put out by Columbia Records in 1993 to promote the release of The Red Shoes in the U.S. It measures 8.5” x 11” and it’s double-sided.

This one for The Red Shoes is very nice. The front has the album artwork in full colour and the back has some nice advertising for the album and its release.

Handbills are promotional flyers used to promote either an artist’s record or concert dates. A variety of different things can be listed on handbills: Artist info, Album info, Tour Dates, etc. They’re usually double-sided, but not always. They’re normally printed on thin glossy paper, and the front of the handbill is usually in full colour and the reverse in black and white (or grey tones); sometimes the reverse side is printed in full colour as well. They can also vary in size. Although this one for The Red Shoes measures around 8.5" x 11", typically 7" x 10" is a normal standard size for them. Japan is well known for their elaborately designed handbills when it comes to promoting artists, and they’re usually more eye-catching in my opinion.

The Sensual World - USA Promo Flat

Original USA promo flat that was put out by CBS records in 1989 to promote the release of The Sensual World. Promo flats were distributed to record stores to promote an artist’s album or new single. They were usually double-sided, but not always. The standard size of a promo flat is 12” x 12”, or slightly larger. In some cases they could be as small as 7” x 7”.

The front of this promo flat features the cover artwork of the album with the CBS Records copyright notice in the lower right-hand corner. If a promo flat was double-sided, the reversed side would usually feature anything from additional artwork, album tracks, release dates for singles/album or even the music company’s logo, etc. The back of this one has a copper coloured background, featuring a rose design. More than just advertising an album’s release, these things really are perfect for framing.

Not only have these become more difficult to come by these days (especially the much older ones), due to the fact that a lot of this stuff got trashed back in the day when an album’s promotion was over, but they also offered a lot of unique looking artwork that was never found on the albums or anywhere else. Just a shame that most people never saw the value in this kind of thing at the time.
