Ok, so I finally got the rest of my UK order today, which includes the standard release CD and the deluxe version. I won't be opening the deluxe version as I already have an opened copy of that. I don't think I'll be opening the standard version either, as I don't see the point since it's already in the deluxe version. Confused yet??? I know that I am.
I have to say that I'm a little disappointed with the standard release packaging. I really thought this was going to come in a normal jewel case. Instead, it comes with book-like covers that are similar to the deluxe version release. The spine of the CD case is rather oversized, making the whole thing look a bit awkward... as if a bunch of pages had been ripped from a book. There's also a considerable height difference between the deluxe version and the standard release.
I really like the book format packaging on the deluxe version. It really works and looks nice. However, the same can't be said of the standard release. I personally feel that the standard CD would have benefited more from a jewel case release. The book look just isn't working for me in this case.
As a side note: In case nobody has seen it. I have ordered a second copy of Director's Cut on vinyl and it's on its way. As soon as it arrives, I will be opening up one of my copies and going into better detail with it.
